Adopt A Community

A Good Neighbour

We serve you, so you can serve others.

A Good Neighbour is Adopt A Community’s in-app giving initiative on the BinpackR platform — a simple way for anyone to support the people and places working to restore dignity to South Africa’s townships and informal settlements, one neighbourhood at a time.

Our Philosophy

Why This Initiative Exists

“We serve you, so you can serve others.”

In light of what our country has been experiencing, it seems as if the essence of Ubuntu has been eroded by noise that tries to take away what makes us who we are. This is the essence of why Adopt A Community was created.

“Adopt” is a verb, and a verb is a doing word. This initiative sits right at the heart of So You May Eat Crisis & Resource Centre’s philosophy — the idea of taking ownership of our community, environmentally, socially, and economically.

A Good Neighbour gives every community in the townships and informal settlements of South Africa the opportunity to own their spaces again, and to bring dignity back to where we live.

We have reimagined the philosophy of Ubuntu to mean:

“We serve you, so you can serve others.”

You don’t need to be part of a big campaign to make a difference. You just need to be a good neighbour.
